Are you wondering about baptism for your child?
Do you have questions about being baptised yourself?
No one is too old to be baptised.

If you are already baptised, rejoice in this wonderful gift of God, which can be celebrated with joy on its anniversary. If you're not yet baptised, this wonderful gift of God is available to you. People of all ages can be baptised.

Baptism is much more than a sign or ritual. It is a gift of God in which we receive the forgiveness of sins and are made God's children. It is God’s work, not the result of a human decision or commitment. Baptism is a sacrament, a holy mystery. Baptism is a holy act which Jesus Christ established, where God uses water to give people spiritual blessings.

Baptism is a gift, consequently there is no charge for Baptisms.

Christ's command

We baptise people in obedience to Jesus Christ’s command in Matthew 28 to baptise all people and teach them the Word of God and the Christian life. That means that baptism makes us into lifelong learners, and a good place to learn is with other Christians in your local Christian church.

This once-only gift from God is celebrated and renewed daily as we live in repentance and faith, confessing our sins to God, and asking for and receiving his forgiveness and power in our lives. Our whole lives are ‘soaked in the renewing and refreshing waters of baptism’.

Infants, children and adults

When infants and small children are baptised Christian parents and/or sponsors make the baptismal vows on behalf of the child, and take responsibility for the Christian upbringing of the child. However, in the church we are eager to help with this responsibility, while not taking it away from the parents. We encourage parents to embrace the gift of communal worship and to commit themselves to the ongoing process of nurture, teaching and spiritual formation of their baptised children.

In the case of adults, any unbaptised person confessing faith in Jesus Christ may be baptised after a period of instruction.
We welcome enquiries about baptism for people of all ages. A good first step is to join us for worship on Sunday morning.
